Most shuffle trackers start off by card counting, but they eventually turn to shuffle tracking. Shuffle tracking is a more difficult method of card counting to learn, but it yields the highest chance results for the player.

Shuffle tracking is not too unlike what the name suggests. It keeps track of unused cards as well as keeping track of played cards. After a game has ended, a player who has counted the cards will have a good idea of the remaining cards in the shoe. If a high percentage of face cards have been dealt by the dealer, then the advanced Blackjack player realizes that the majority of left over cards are lower count cards. This gives the player an advantage just as if he had counted the deck. It increases the chance of knowing which cards are left over to be dealt after shuffling. The idea is that the counted cards that were not played will be grouped together more frequently in the new shuffled deck.
